UBANGS
The
UBANG is an adaptation of the Udu, a traditional African Clay
Pot Drum. It has been re-designed by providing a flatter playing
surface for the shell of the drum while keeping the traditional
side and top sound holes. It also features a mic port which enables
the application of an internal mic. The deep sustaining bass sounds
are produced by striking the sound holes with the palm of the
hand, while the ringing "tek" sounds are made by striking
the clay shell with the fingers, similar to the playing technique
of the Indian Tabla or Ghatam.
The
UBANG is available in four full sizes and a mini. The full sized
drums are approximately tuned to the keys of A,E,D and low C in
order from the smallest to the largest. Each one is intricately
carved with various designs, and is signed and dated by the drum
maker.
